Our Fall Parade at the Park - Parada de Otoño en el Parque

Hi families,

In October we had so much fun. This post will contain a lot of photos of all of our different activities.

In October we spoke about pumpkins and their life cycle and we also were able to open up a pumpkin and investigate what was inside. We continued recognizing our letters and letters sounds and focused on the letters M, P and N. Also, in Math we learned about number 6 and 7 as well as what happens

when we add one more to a number (adding). We will continue talking about adding one more during the month of November as well. We can't forget about the Pumpkin Patch we created in our dramatic play area!!

During reading we continued to work on our reading skills by making predictions, connecting the stories to our real lives, growing the information in our schema and re-telling stories. All of these strategies will help students comprehend text better when they get to Kindergarten and start reading. Our focus books were Leonardo the Terrible Monster, The Creepy Carrots and a non-fiction text about Pumpkins.

En Octubre nos divertimos mucho. Este post contiene muchas fotos de las diferentes actividades que hicimos este mes. 

Patterns and Measuring
Patrones y midiendo

En Octubre hablamos de las calabazas y su ciclo de vida y abrimos una calabaza para investigar lo que estaba adentro. Reconocimos las letras y los sonidos M, N, P y en matemáticas trabajamos con los numbers 6 y 7. También aprendimos que pasa cuando añadimos uno mas a un number (sumando). En el mes de octubre vamos a seguir explorando que pasa cuando añadimos una mas. Y no nos podemos olvidar de la huerta de calabazas que creamos en el centro dramático!!!

Durante la lectura continuamos a trabajar en nuestras destrezas de leer. Hicimos predicciones, conectamos los cuentos a nuestras vidas, nuestras Schemas crecieron y volvimos a contar cuentos. Estas destrezas ayudan a que los niños comprendan lo que ellos lean cuando llegan al Kinder. Los libros de enfoque de este mes eran Leonardo the Terrible Monster, The creepy Carrots y un libro de calabazas.

Hi Families!!

Our predictions on what would happen in the story
Nuestras predicciones del cuento

We hope everyone is doing well. We have been talking about Fall, Leaves and bullying for the past two weeks. We also welcomed a new student and celebrated Ms. Antonia's birthday. We are proud to say that all students recognize the letter of their own name and many of the letters of their classmates names, they can also read their own own names!!! We have started studying the letters T, B, H and F along with their sounds.

In math, many students are doing great with matching objects in different ways; by color, shape and size and they also recognize numbers 1-5. We have started matching numbers with the quantity, for example number 3 with three blocks or 2 with two blocks. 

In science and social studies we have been studying the season of fall as well as all the changes that comes with the fall. We have taken many walks around the community and looked at different trees with different colored leaves. We also noticed that there are many squirrels looking for acorns and getting ready for the winter. We were also able to take our HOT picture off of our weather chart and finally add windy and cold weather, not many students were happy about that. =)

Finally in our reading for the past two weeks we have been reading stories about bullying and what to do in different situations regarding bullying. The books we read Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon and The Recess Queen were great stories for not only explaining bullying to our students but they also promoted various reading strategies and we are working on. Strategies like predicting, inferring, stating our opinions and re-tell all help students develop a love for stories and also help them understand the message of the story. In addition it develops their language, conversational and vocabulary skills as well as their cognitive and social emotional development. Books are the key to a different world so READ, READ, READ!!

For the next month we will continue number recognition 1-10 and matching numbers to quantities in Math. We will also explore Pumpkins, Pumpkin patches, Spiders, Halloween and read about a sweet little witch who did not want to leave anyone behind! See you soon =)

Esperemos que todos estén bien. Estuvimos hablando del otoño, las hojas y del acoso las ultima dos semanas. También le dimos la bienvenida a una estudiante nueva y celebramos el cumpleaños de Ms. Antonia. Estamos bien orgullosas de que todos los estudiantes saben decir y escribir la primera letra de su nombre, también muchas de las letras de los nombres de sus compañeros y también leer sus propios nombres!!! Empezamos a estudiar las letra T, B, H, F y los sonidos que hacen en ingles. 

En matemática muchos estudiantes están haciendo estupendo emparejando objetos por color, forma y tamaño. También pueden reconocer los números del 1 -5. Ahora empezamos a emparejar un numero con la cantidad.

En ciencia y estudios social estudiamos la estación del otoño y los cambios que pasan en el otoño. Caminamos por el vecindario a ver los arboles diferentes con hojas de diferentes colores. También notamos que muchas ardillas estaban recogiendo bellotas y se están preparando para el invierno. Y por fin quitamos la etiqueta del calor en nuestra gráfica del tiempo y añadimos el viento y frío, no habían muchos estudiantes que estaban feliz por esto.

Por fin en nuestra lectura por las ultimas dos semanas estuvimos leyendo cuentos del acoso y que hacer en diferentes situaciones. Los libros que leímos Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon (Parece Alto, Molly Lou Melon) y The Recess Queen (La Reina del Recreo) eran cuentos perfectos para no solo explicar que es el acoso pero también para promover las destrezas de la literatura que estamos usando en la escuela. Destrezas como prediciendo, inferir, declarando nuestras opiniones y volviendo a contar un cuento, todos ayudan a los niños desarrollar su amor para los libros y también los ayuda entender el mensaje del cuento. En adición desarrolla el lenguaje, y habilidades de conversación y vocabulario, también la destrezas cognoscitiva y socio emotional. Los libros son la llave a un mundo diferente por eso LEE, LEE, LEE!!

En este mes vamos a continuar el reconocimiento de los números 1-10 y emparejando los números a sus cantidades en matemáticas. Vamos a explorar las calabazas, el huerto de calabazas, arañas,  Día de las brujas y un cuento de una brujita dulce que no quería dejar a sus amigos a tras.  Nos vemos pronto =)

Apples / Manzanas

Hello,
Last week we learned about Apples. We played with apples, counted apples, drew apples, tasted apples and even saw 3 different apple trees. It was an apple filled week. We read many different books about Apples and the Schema chart was introduced to the class. Our Schema is all of the information that is in our brain and the chart is a chart where we write down all of the information we already know about (Apples) and then add to it during the week as we learn new things. It's safe to say that our schema about Apples grew a lot this past week. Ask your children questions about apples! We were so busy this past week that we did not take many pictures, but if you see our bulletin boards in the classroom when you drop your children off in the morning you will see all of our apple themed work.

This week we are learning about Fall!!! =)

La semana pasada aprendimos de las Manzanas. Jugamos con manzanas, contamos manzanas, dibujamos manzanas y tambien vimos tres diferentes arboles de manzanas. Fue una semana llena de manzanas. Leimos differentes libros sobre las manzanas y introdujimos el diagrama del esquema. La esquema es toda la información en nuestro cerebro y el diagrama es donde escribimos toda esa información y le añadimos todo lo que aprendimos durante la semana, y fue mucho! Estuvimos tan ocupados esta semana que no sacamos muchas fotos pero durante la semana pueden mira los trabajos en la clase.

Esta semana estamos aprendiendo del Otoño! =)
